| Toshiba DVD- ROM SD- C2502 Issues Disk not formatted...Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows.
That is d bloody message I get whenever I insert 'any' disc into my drive. What do you think the problem is?! Is it a software/driver issue or what?! I've been grounded and cannot do anything using my drive for some time now, until I discovered this forum, and perhaps my problem might be solve?
Waiting to hear from u. pls help!!! |

Try the drive in another machine with a known good controller and cable. If it works, it's a Windows problem. Otherwise, I'd suspect that the drive is bad. |

Maybe the drive isn't even spinning up the disc (the motor is bad). To check this, put the disc into the tray with the writing facing towards you. Close the tray... wait about 20 seconds... open the drive again. If the disc is in the same position (hasn't rotated) as where you left it when you put it in the drive, the motor is bad - and you need to buy a new drive.
Also, lenses / read mechanisms have been known to go bad in the past, too. To see if it is possibly software related, Check device manager for yellow exclamation point icons next to the DVD drive listing or drive controller listing. If there are no exclamation points, try the drive in another PC. If it doesn't work there, time to get a new drive. |

I'd say it is a bad drive also, check you cables, try new ones, try a cd and a DVD, but I bet it is the drive.

Yay guys! Thanks for the suggestions. This all boils down to the point that perhaps the drive has a problem. Maybe the lens. Actually, I got this driver downloaded and then it was able to play my DVD. But it can't play my Mp3 disc. I went into BIOS mode and it still didn't read the disk I inserted. Weird...but then after reboot, it still read from my DVD. It's a laptop and I will try to see if I can get it work somewhere else. Any more information will be appreciated...cheers guys! |

Steve | Those who do not have HP computers can probably do the same by typing in (your computer make Name. ie.. compaq?) compaq driver download into google search.
For those w/HP Computers, follow info below.
Go to the HP website, ( HP Support & Drivers )
Check > Download drivers and software (and firmware)
In the search bar > enter the model of your hp computer. ie.. mine was omnibook 6100
When that page opens
scroll down to find & click the windows version you have
When that page opens
Again scroll down to the Driver Section and find the one to match yours.
I wrote it step by step because I am one of those people who is usually scared to DEATH of all this stuff.
