Not sure if they are the best, but see what RobRich thinks.

i just had a look at that review, and one of the nero infotool screenies brought up a question in my mind. is a dual layer disc read from inside to outside of the disc on one layer, then from outside to inside on the second layer? when i think about it, it would make sense to do it this way, as it would involve just a laser refocus and sector seek, rather than having to also seek the laser back to the track0 equivalent of a dvd. i know it is one long spiral track, not many circular ones, but i mean a seek to the leadin or toc, or wherever the read would start from, and i don't know if there is a separate toc on the second layer, although i suppose there would be a leadin on the second layer. sorry about the thread hijack and my rambling on.

good call headband. nero blows roxio away. you could probably get nero with it instead on new egg. anyway, you wouldnt go wrong with either of those burners

I have bought the Nero Ultra edition so a software bundle isn't a killer option for me.. I really only want the best DL DVD burner out there...
The Lite-on in Rob's review looks good. I am just looking at replacing my NEC 2500a. Hoepfully I can find some DVD9 blanks at a good price soon in Canada (but not holding my breath until next year).

you can flash your 2500 to dual layer capability, but i don't know what the results are like!

October 11th, 2004, 01:30 PM #9I have seen that... (but many with mixed results).. I am just not going to bother for now. Not really worth it when a new drive is only around $140 bucks.

Check this NEC (Model: ND-3500A) out, has dual layer support and looks awesome. It's the one I ordered for my rig: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t123375.html
Heres a link to the newegg.com page on it:
