I have an IDE drive and a SATA drive (that should arrive at my doorstep on Monday). Is it possible to set up an IDE drive and a SATA drive in RAID?

Actually, the answer is yes, though using the technology I have in mind, you would likely lose quite a bit of speed. Also, since RAID is only advisable when using drives of the same interface and same size, it may be difficult to meet these requirements unless you are picking out the drives specifically for this purpose. The technology I am thinking of that might help is something called "Serillel ATA" from ABIT. It lets you connect a parallel ATA style drive (old ATA) to a Serial ATA controller. I don't know if this technology only works with their boards, but I would think it would also work with others if you just bought a serillel converter chip card. Worth a shot if you are really interested, though your results may not be what you expect.
