Help me with a backup scheme

I have a WD 30GB 7200 Drive, as well as a WD 20GB 5400rpm drive.

I used to back up my data (When I was using W98) by simply using WD's EZDrive, and simply making a partition copy of my 30GB to my 20GB. This worked great because I could plug my 20GB drive in and it would load and work just fine.

Well now I upgraded to XP and this doesn't seem to work anymore. I did a partition-partition copy, and the data copied but the 20GB drive would not boot. If I used the Windows XP CD to boot into the recovery console and used the "FIXBOOT" command the drive would boot and load windows but would hang on the logon screen.

I'm trying to get a way so that I can copy my partition onto the 20GB drive to have as a backup. I am using a newer version of EZDrive (Now Known as Data Lifeguard Tools), could that be the problem? Is anyone else using the DLG and have done this copy with XP before?

Thanks

XP has some issues about being copied in any form. The best way we've found is to manually Ghost the image using Ghost 7 and even then it doesn't like NTFS partitions. Our fix for the images is to ghost prior to the user setup screens and then use a script for application installation and autoconversion to NTFS after the initial boot. Not sure if it will help as our environment is a bit different, but it's at least something to try.

Thanks for the reply but I figured out how to do it with the updated EZDrive. I Just need to do a "Fully Automatic Install" vs a straight partition copy. It copied everything over and then I tested it out, it booted and logged on fine.
