My hard drive makes a clicking sound and then my PC hangs all of a sudden...

I've been having this problem for the past weeks:

At random instances, something clicks inside my pc.. sort of like the sound that a voltage regulator makes when there's a power surge...

it sounds like my hard drive is the one that makes the sound

anyway, after I hear this sound, after 5 seconds or so, my PC hangs all of a sudden.

I recently swithced from win98 to winXP. It happened since I had win98 on my PC... but when I was using win98, when it would click, the system would stop for a short time, and then go back to normal... in winXP, it downright hangs.

I really can't pinpoint what the problem is... it might be the harddrive or something else in my CPU, but I'm thinking it's my hard drive....
