quick q : chosing a sata hard drive?

from what ive read SATA are much better than IDE...
Is there a particular make of SATA which are superior to others? Looking for between 120gb-200GB. Thx

personal choice would point to seagate over maxtor...........no performance difference noticeable, but my seagate is quieter...............

SATA are much better than IDE
that might be overstating just a little...............

yes sata is slightly faster then ide. but then again ide doesnt need drivers to run it. i like seagate.
if it is not broken, play with it till it is.

I usually just get IDE as they're cheaper and simpler to install. Depends what you want. The performance is negligible.

Plus I'm waiting for SATA to mature a bit more and see if those 10,000 rpm drives hold up long term.

So much misinformation in so little space!

Serial ATA isn't any "faster" than parallel ATA (also known as IDE); it does, however, provide for greater bus bandwidth. This is, of course, pointless, as there is no difference between serial and parallel drives, aside from their interface; and, no drive could possibly use all of that bandwidth. So, no, serial ATA isn't even slightly faster.

All devices need drivers. Drivers for serial and parallel ATA are largely identical in implementation.

i know that every thing needs drivers but when installing a sata drive you need to have the drivers on a floppy so it can boot with them.

So just a final quick question..
On here ive seen alot of questions about installing SATA drives involving pressing F6 and setting up RAID etc etc..
Will it be easier if I just use an IDE? (I need a new master hard drive for my new computer and im putting a IDE slave in ive already got. Thanks for your patience, im fairly new to all this

Not necessarily. And there are certainly some parallel ATA controllers which require drivers like that.
