Thanks for the replies, I have tried using a DVD+RW, and also a CD+RW to accomplish what I am after, however the problem is that the files, once written to the disc becomes (read only), therefor I am unable to go back and edit the data and then re-save it back to the same place. The only way so far that i have been able to accomplish this task is by erasing the disc and then re-saving the file back to it. the only problem with that is that I can't just erase a single file on the disc, I have to erase the whole disc-therein lies the problem of losing all of the other files on the disc.
With my old pavilion, I was able to just put a CDRW in the drive and use it in the same manner as you would the A: drive(floppy)
That is why I figured that there must be a third party utility or"software" that can be used.
