dvd rom mysteriously stopped working

Ok i finally got a cd burner. installed it and now my old dvd rom wont get detected. it opens and closes. i also tried switching around the cable but no dice. cna some one help me out?

did u properly set the jumpers to master or secondary?

i did cable select on both but the original dvd drive was set to master and it still didnt get detected but the new one did.

check the jumpers, and which IDE cable is linked to each drive.

Try setting the CD burner to master and the DVD Rom to slave. Connect the end of the IDE cable to the CD burner and the middle connector to the DVD.

You might also check in the bios to make sure the slave drive is recognized. If it's not see if it is set to Auto Detect.

I did a auto detect on both drives or slave master but it wont detect even in the bios.

Do you have or can you get another IDE cable? Try swapping out the cable.

i dont have one but yeah i will try and pick one up today.
