    My new upgrade Q.

I currently have a maxtor 40 GB 2meg cache ATA133 hdd. I will upgrade it to a 80Gig 8meg cache SATA. What kind of performance increase can I expect?

the only thing you'll probably notice is transfer of larger files.

For regular system performance, generally the RPM of the disc is the primary specification. SATA and the increased cache help some, but its unlikely you'll notice any discernable difference in performance.

Exactly. The extra cache and the SATA bus will really only help on large file transfers. Small files will not benefit in any real noticable fashion.

SATA would be helpful on RAID 1 disk mirroring because of the SATA bus size being slightly larger then the ATA bus.
