That's still a CRC error. You need a better reader in order to over come that problem. The Benq drives don't cost much more than the NEC, and you'll be very happy with buying a Benq. |

its a brand new disc , i really dont want to buy a new drive the nec is only 3 months old! ive tried redoing some of my older dvds and they are fine , this has happened with this disc and one other i got recently other than that things have been fine, ive used both my drives to try reading and get the same error at the same point , but my dvd player plays the film flawlessly.

yeah probably a bad source disk...
have you tried cleaning the disk?
have you visually inspected it for damage? |

Your source disk is what is defective and is imperfect. Sure you can play it just fine, but ripping it takes alot more in depth reading by your optical drive, thus watching it will be fine, but ripping will come up with a CRC error.

| Getting CRC error as well
Actually, it is not likely the source disk, as I have started getting this error very frequently as well on MANY disks. I do the same thing, when we buy a movie, we burn it and use the copy and store the original in a media cabinet. I have had about 7/10 disks give me this response over the last 6 months.
My drives:
Sony DVD RW DRU-710A
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170A |

| This is the solution I found
I use a free software called ripit4me in conjunction with another free app called fixvts (Along with dvd decrypter) that takes care of the cyclic redundency error I always get. It actually scans for the dummy sectors that cause this error and then creates new ones after taking it apart piece by piece. Although it takes a very long time... it usually works. Hope this helps a lil bit. |

well its not exactly free but I use clonedvd, and the company that made guarantees that you will get through any copywriting (legally of course) or they will get a legal copy for you |

| CopyCat
Try CopyCat
It does not seem to have the cyclic redundancy problem |
