| DVD Shrink cyclic redundancy error
Ive been using dvd shrink for quite a while to backup my dvds (version 3.2 ) I dont pirate discs before ppl start flaming me. The reason i back up is i buy my young kids dvds regularly and as you can understand the discs get scratched and gewt sticky fingerprints on them therefore what i do is give them a backup copy and keep the origonal disc safe.
Anyway my problem is ive beeen getting errors recently sometimes the burn fails and sometimes i get the error message "cyclic Redundancy error" its only started happening recently and im at a loss as to what the problem is . Does anyone know ? or failing that is there another free program thats as straightforward as dvd shrink? and as reliable as it used to be? could the problem be down to new copy protection tecniques? I really need to solve this as ive just bought three new dvds for my daughter and i dont want them ruined ,
Thanks in advance for any help

There is nothing wrong with your software and there is nothin you can do about it. DVD's are now being slowely equiped with a new protection called rip guard. I used various programs, such as: dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, dvd x copy, to get around it but none work at the time. THe only way to "backup" those dvd's is to rip the video from the disc and then burn the file to a disc. There is a quality loss but is the onlt way for those dvd's at the moment. And that doesnt even work all the time

Try opening the DVD in your software DVD player, get to the middle of the movie and pause. Then try to rip it. |

What does this do?
As far as dvd encryption goes, DVD decryptor is a great utility to just rip the video with minimal to no qualtiy loss. It won't do all encryption states, but it does more then what is included with DVD Shrink.

It seems the new copy protection system is kicking me in teeth here. |

What you could do is get TEMPGenc DVD Author. It's a program that lets you edit dvd's. You start the program up, load the movie and save the output to your hard drive. Then use Nero to burn the backup. In your case you wouldn't need to edit so just load the movie and set the output. That may work for you. |

You sure sound positive its "new" protections and "theres nothing you can do"!
Considering these are mostly kids movies, their probably NOT going to have the latest greatest protections anyway...
Ive gotten that same error due to MANY factors, including dirty disks, fragmented drives, dirty lens, too much running in the backround... bad firmware... bad disks period...
Ive been backing up all the newest releases and haven't had more than 4 that needed anything beyond DVD decryptor to rip the more protected ones...

Do you know where i could get dvddecrypter. ive done a google but seem to be getting dodgy passhack sites and dont fancy downloading anything from them. Ive not had the problem reburning old dvds and have tried each dvd that has the problem in both my drives, this was happening before i did a recent reformat and is still happening after. |
