My mobo supports one SATA drive and has two IDE connectors. Can I use an SATA drive as my master, and still have two IDE drives as slaves, (actually one ATA 133, one IDE)?
If so, could I RAID them all together? |

I'm guessing by master you mean boot disk, and so thats "yes".
As for #2 you probably can't do a hardware raid. You could only do a dynamic volume in windows (if you have like XP), in software, so the answer is "meh".

Yes, you can use as many SATA and IDE drives as your mobo supports....
You cannot RAID IDE drives with SATA drives.

Thanx 'yall. This really was just curiosity.
I couldn't RAID only the IDE drives, could I?
BTW, what is "dynamic volume"? |

You could, but that would require you to have an IDE RAID card or option on your mobo, most mobos do not come with intergrated IDE RAID features...
I also wanted to know what dynamic volume is, I aksed not too long ago, but never got a response. |

It's that thing you do in rightclick My Computer/manage/Disk Management
Theres a little guide here
I really don't recommend it, unless you have an entirely empty hd. I mean hd not partition. Quote: |

My mobo has a RAID driver included on the disk that came with it. Also, XP shows a RAID controller in device manager. I beleive this means my mobo has an onboard RAID controller.
How would I set them up, (the IDE drives), I've never used RAID. |

How would I set them up, (the IDE drives), I've never used RAID. | Your mobo most likely only has a SATA RAID controller because as I already mentioned, most motherboards only have SATA RAID. If you do not have onboard IDE RAID, then if you wish to use IDE RAID, you would have to get a PCI IDE RAID card.
When you setup RAID, you would most likely have to wipe the drives, I think there may be one RAID option where you do not have to, but I am not sure. |
