Purchased used Maxtor 60GB HD/ have question?

I picked up a used Maxtor HD. I installed it as a slave but upon boot the BIOS tells me "smartdisk failed on Slave drive, back up now, F1 to continue".... So I go into windows and run tests on the drive and so far all tests show the disk to be fine?? I did a complete scan with Norton Disk Doctor and it did a full surface scan and found NO problems with the drive. I re-booted and again the boot screen shows the "Smartdisk failure for the Slave Drive, hit F1 to continue."

I can do that but is this a problem with the drive or ??? This is the first drive that this has shown this error?

down load the maxtor drive test and run it,

does the bios support a 133MB transfer rate,

how does the bios list the drive at startup,

what is the DMA mode set at

Dual Ultra DMA 66/ 100 IDE controllers integrated in ICH5 - Have run several 133 TR drives without that error, it just runs them at ATA/100

List's the drive just as my other drive


chkdsk /r - Reported nothing wrong with disk

Maxtor Diag. Disk reported nothing either.... WTF?
