Sound and Video problems, among others, with new hard drive.

Hi there. I've been searching for a good place to ask questions about my problems, and this looks like an awesome place..

I recently bought a Hitachi Parallel ATA 250GB Internal hard drive. I have a Dell Dimension 4550 PC. My original hard drive was only 30 GB, so I've been wanting to upgrade for a long time.

Tonight my friend (who knows a lot about installing things into computers) and I installed the hard drive. I booted the computer up, formatted and partitioned the new drive, and it seemed to work okay.

I then started copying files over to the new drive (I kept the originals til I saw if the new files worked).

I copied my movies folder (8GB), and my music folder (10GB), and everything seemed okay. But, this is where the problem started.. None of my movie files work well on the new drive. Realplayer plays its movies, but the movies speed up incredibly quickly (these are just small files, like trailers and such). Quicktime and Windows Media Player plays movies, but they're horribly choppy in visuals AND sound.

As for my music.. they were no better. Music files play normally for a bit, then become choppy from time to time, and full of static.

All the old files on my main hard drive still work fine. Any ideas? Having installed the hard drive, I doubt I can send it back for a refund so.. any ideas what is wrong? Any help would be incredibly appreciated!!!

Is this drive replacing you other or just a slave?
If replacing, it sounds like you need the correct codecs.
Does every thing else run fine?

It's a new slave drive. I still have the old hard drive, which is where I'm transferring some of the movies and music from. Everything still works great on the old drive, it's just off this new drive.. is where the music and movies get screwed up.
