Fellow Members:
I purchased an external USB 2.0 HDD. My difficulty is really quite simple: "How does one
operate such a device?" SERIOUSLY. If I power "on" the external hard drive BEFORE booting my computer, my computer hangs at the SCSI BIOS screen -- right before reaching the Win2KPro splash screen.
On the other hand, if I wait to power "on" the external hard drive until the splash screen launches halfway through, it (splash screen) gets no further than where it was when I powered "on" the external drive.
Finally, if I wait to power "on" the external drive until AFTER my computer has finished booting, the external drive does not "appear."
When I initially cabled this drive to my system and turmed it on, it worked fine. I noticed it was formatted in NTFS. The balance of my HDD's are formatted in FAT32 and I harbored some concern about using two file allocation tables on one computer, having never done so before.
The "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon (Stop USB Mass Storage Device) appeared in my systray and all seemed right with the world.
Now, a YELLOW "!" EXCLAM appears next to this
Mass Storage Device in Device Manager, with "Code 10" notification: ("This device cannot stop," driver error?)
Can anyone help me get this drive running?
Once I correct the problems affecting this drive (new driver, conflict, etc.), what is the poper sequence for startng and stopping it?
Thanks!
Brangwen
