IDE to SATA drive copy?

I want to copy an IDE hardrivrdrive onto a new SATA hardrive, I've got a copy unit(Diskology diskjockey)with adapters. My question is, can I put the SATA drivers on the old hardrive before I copy it, or can it be done later in the Windows recovery console? If anyone has done anything like this please let me know, thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure Windows had some native SATA drivers. You should be okay. The only time I have had to ever muck about SATA drivers was when I used a SATA card to expand out.

Otherwise when I have done a new install (not your situation, but similar) with a new SATA drive, no drivers were needed.

beastgreeley, the easiest way to had the SATA drivers in your situation is like you said, add the drivers to the PATA drive before you transfer the data to the SATA drive.

radio1_mike, Windows doesn't have native SATA drivers. They come on a floppy or CD with the motherboard. When first installing Windows you are asked if you want to install SCSI or 3rd party drivers and to press F6 if you do. How you got a SATA drive to work on a new install without installing the drivers is beyond me.

Yah. I just assumed they did because. The last time I did a fresh build/install w/SATA drive, I did not do that. Oh well.

if your mobo supports sata on install of OS it should config the drivers for it...
