how to tell if i have sata150 or SataII 3.0
how to tell if i have sata150 or SataII 3.0 in my compaq... i know its sata, but i dont know which. I plan to buy a new drive from newegg because mine is really loud!!!
BTW: how much faster SATA fron ATA133 - is it noticable?

Are you talking about the drive or the controller? Either way, you'll need to look up the specifications to find out.
Although "faster" is undefined, given that the drives are identical, there's no real performance difference between parallel and serial ATA drives. In fact, SATA drives use more power.

Sata cable is much smaller, which i think is a nice attribute. Same price as ATA, and is newer technology. But they are basically identical drives with different names.

By the way, there is no noticable difference between the 2 SATA's, although the newer SATA 300 cables have a "lock" on them, which prevents them from slipping off.
