| Help changing hard drive letter
Hey, ive researched a lot about how to change the hard drive letters on my computer. I recently reformatted my computer and my second hard drive is labeled F: instead of D:. I want it to show up as D:. I came to the conclusion that the easiest way is to reinstall windows xp again. But every time i reinstall it, the hard drive letter is F: again. How do i change the letter? |

You could try changing your optical drive(s) to a different letter, thus freeing up D, then change F to D. This can be done in Disk Management.
There's a downside to this. Many applications want to install with the disc in D, so you're potentially making some extra work for yourself. I frankly prefer having my "data" drive as a higher letter and using D and E for my DVD drives. |

There is a problem with that. I already tried disk management, and i tried to change the hard drive letter but it says: Windows cannot modify the drive letter of your system volume or boot volume. So how can i change the letter? |

And the drive is not the system drive (where Win XP is currently booting from)? There shouldn't be any problems with that, as I did the same thing a week ago on my own computer.... |

It seems you've loaded XP onto a second drive, which is now drive F. This cannot be changed without reinstalling. |
