On my laptop, I have a CDRW/DVD-ROM drive. For a long time I have only used CD's in it, but now I tried to put a DVD in and it won't read it. One time it did display the title of the CD when I accessed "My Computer", bu only once. Other than that, it seems like it knows a disc is there but is having trouble reading it. any suggestions? |

Is it a regular, pressed DVD (e.g. like a movie), or is it a recordable DVD (DVD+/- R/RW) |

Btw, it is a DVDRW sorry for misinformation. The CD I am currently trying to use is a computer game, so its manufactured. This happened before though with a DVD that Circuit City burned. This laptop is a Gateway bought this Summer. The drive is a Philips DVD+RW SDVD8820. |

The game is on a DVD. Is there no solution besides replacement? |

Maybe there's just a buildup of dust on the pickup laser. Try using a cd/dvd drive cleaner. They look like a normal cd, but with little brushes on the underside. |

Go to Gateway support site and see if they have a firmware update. |
