moving hard drive from dead XP comp to new Vista comp.

So here's the situation: a transformer blows in my neighborhood, and the voltage spike makes it past my very fancy surge protector and cooks my motherboard. I could get it fixed but the machine is pushing obsolescence so I'd rather buy a new, more powerful computer.
My old computer is an HP running XP, and I'm planning to buy a new HP running Vista. Since the old machine is dead I can't simply transfer files between the two. Is it possible to hitch up my old drive to my new machine and transfer documents, audio, video, and program files- or maybe install it as a slave to the new drive?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Sure. Just install it in the new computer and it'll show up as your D: drive!

if you dont want to mess with openin up the new computer and installing the drive, you could also throw the old drive in a USB enclosure and it will accomplish the same thing, but at a performance hit.
