| drivers for travan 20gb tape drive
Im looking for drivers for a Travan 20GB tape drive I have, I got this out of a friends storage unit and wanted to use it since I got like 30-40 tapes along with it, not all 20GB ones, some are like 3.6GB and other sizes, but the drive says Travan 20GB on it and its SCSI, I guess I can get a SCSI card and use it in PC im about to build (for backups, etc..) I need to find drivers for it, but i cant seem to find any.. Or an install program, etc. I have tapeware backup on CD which was in the same box.. Not a big fan of it, but hey its there, might as well see if its useful (if i can get windows to see the drive.
Anyone know where I can find drivers for this tape drive...?

Well, the first thing you need to do is find out who manufactured it. It could be a Quantum, HP, etc. Are there any model numbers or FCC numbers on it?

Semi Thread steal here Shucky ya old programming buddy...
Do they still make these? I always liked tape backups, but they seem to go away for the PC
And another pain was, if your system went down totally, you would have to put in new HD, then install Windows, then install software for drive and THEN backup; what a pain!!
Do ya'll know if they have software they may boot off CD that could fire up the tape backup?
Thanks, we now return you to your regulary scheduled thread (Thanks Shuckers ) |

yea, no prob
Umm... I'll check about FCC numbers and manufacturer tomorrow, all that i noticed so far is it was a Travan 20GB drive with SCSI connections. I guess I would have to get one of my SCSI cards out and find drivers for that as well in order to use it. I have never used tape backup drives for backing up personal data (home computers) usually just use a 320GB HDD or something where I make periodic .RAR files of my drives and throw them on there. I know a 20GB tape isnt the most economical solution I just couldn't see these things go in the trash when we cleaned out the stuff today, so I kept them and want to see if I can make some use out of them, even if its just to say I did |

SCSI-2 tape drives have a common programming model, no particular drivers needed. There are a couple of exceptions, most prominently 1st-generation ADR streamers, but the Travans followed the book right from the start. |
