I was trying to install vista and the install kept failing. after many diffrent installs i come to find out that my hard drive had errors on it. I used seagate tools to check it out for errors and there was about over a 100 of them. so i went all over the net to fix these errors and i read somewhere that i can write the drive to zero's and it might fix it. I did that and still errors. is there anyway that i can fix this hard drive? or is there a way that i can maybe put the errors in a partition so i can at least install windows? or is the hard drive trash?
it is a seagate 200GB hard drive. I have the requirements to install vista. |

Do you have a machine you can put it into and do a check desk, windows should mark the places that are bad when you format and partition the drive. |

I have a laptop with a external box, i let windows format the drive and it formats it but does not really tell me anything. then i downloaded seagate tools and formated it to zero's. then did a check again and still erros.
**edit**I mean by external box is that I bought a external case for the hard drive, i did this to remove files i have backed up which i got those files just fine.

If the drive is under warranty just get it replaced. Marking the places that are bad only slows down the inevitable death of the drive.

Yes there is as GZ3 already said. However, like I said, that will only slow down the hard drive's death.
I wouldn't even think twice about replacing the drive. Drives are so cheap now these days that its not even worth losing data over a bad hard drive that can easily be replaced. |

is there a way to do a check disc without windows installed and without taking it out? i have the vista disc and i opened up "cmd" but it won't do a full check(fix/mark errors) without locking the drive. |
