SATA Onboard Controller...

I notice my motherboard's BIOS groups the four SATA connectors on my board by 1&2 and 3&4.

I understand the basic principles behind SATA, but do two connectors share one controller? For example, would I gain performance by plugging my drives into connectors 1&3 instead of 1&2?

Thanks.

Hi there..
I'll try to answer the best I can here. Most of my tech knowledge is from experience and reading online. So I can't really give you alot of specifics.

From what I understand this depends on the motherboard manu. I have had motherboards that had them listed like your does, but 1 other board that listed them just in one grouping. I'm almost sure the majority of them use just one controller. Again, I may be wrong.

I've never seen any performance gain at all by just switching sata ports. It doesn't work like memory does with dual channel or anything. I try to use the Sata 1 ports on the motherboard first though. Don't really know if that makes a difference.
