| Internal to external harddrive?
Hey, I recently found what I think is a really good deal on an internal harddrive, but I have a laptop so I wouldnt be able to use it as an internal. I was just wondering if it is difficult to convert an internal harddrive to an external harddrive. Also, can people tell me what they think of the deal and harddrive itself in the following link; FRYS.com*|*Seagate
Thanks a lot.

| You just buy an encloseure and boom...
Getting Windows to boot off of it is an entirely different story. ANd if you can do that, it'll be much slower then if you were to just get a internal drive for the lappy. |

Will an external harddrive play movies and music (also possibly games) as well as an internal? |

Oh, i noticed now that the deals RicheemxX posted dont seem to come with very long included warrenties, where as the one i posted has a 5 year included warrenty. Given that, would it be better to get the internal and convert it to external, or would it still be better to get one of the extrenals RicheemxX posted and just purchase a couple years of warrenty for it? Haha, sorry, that questions probably better left up to how i feel about it, but I was just wondering what other people thought. |

Those were meant for reference, personally I'd shop it around. There are tons of good deals out there for external drives. For $100 ou might not get the 750gbs but you can get a good 500gb drive with 5yrs warranty FRYS.com*|*Seagate
edit: the thing that is nice about most, pre-manufactured external drives is they come preloaded with backup software. Its nice to have one touch backup. But if you don't need that or aren't going to use it then there is no reason not to buy a bigger drive and use your own external enclosure. Just make sure to read the reviews on the enclosure as some are very good at cooling.

Haha, yeah, that and several other deals are what actually got me started searching. My friend pointed it out but I think it was only good on the 24th. One of the links you sent me had a Seagate 750 gig external harddrive that I liked, although i think it is now out of stock. The website was geeks.com. If I were to buy online from that site or another like it, the manufacturer warrently should still be effective, right? Thanks. |

An external HD via USB2.0 will play music, videos, etc nicely. I wouldnt play 3d games off it, but it should work. If you used eSata connection, speeds are quite a bit faster.
I would advise you to buy an external hard drive, like the Seagate FreeAgent.
Ive seen A LOT of complaints about external enclosure + internal drives dying. Not that the External drives dont die, but the ratio seems to be much smaller.
I personally have a Seagate FreeAgent and a WD MyBook. The FreeAgent wins in all aspects: noise, speed, aesthetics, sleep mode, cooling, etc |
