Mixing Hdd & Optical drives

i was just wondering if its possible to mix a hdd and an dvd-rw on the same ide ribbon cable into the same ide slot on the motherboard?

or would they have to both be either dvd drives or hard disks?

great! which would i set to master, the hard disk or the dvd writer? also would i see a hit in performance?

You would see a hit in performance if the DVD drive was set to master....

All devices are IDE..

Im referring to ide as pata, not sata

Make the hard drive master if it's the machines boot drive. If its just a spare drive it won't matter.

I'm referring to the fact that both devices you want on the IDE (ribbon cable) cable are indeed IDE.


IDE is a lose term to describe ATA (Or PATA) btw..
