But as you say, I need at least 3+ disks for RAID, I only have 2 though. 1 of which is my primary drive and I don't want to have to format that. I think I might just have to go with SATA for now?

My Seagate 1TB drive is serving me well. Maybe Hitachi would be better for you. As my disk runs (or says it runs) at 60C.

I received the drive, but things aren't going that great, New drive not being picked up
I *might* just pick up another 2 just to stick it in RAID and make it work |

Just two questions...
What are the chances that a RAID 0 will fail?
How will the RAID array show in My Computer? If there are 2 drives in the array, would My Computer show it as one drive as it's in RAID format? |

Jimmy, this info is easily available via Google. Please look there before asking here. You are risking having people ignore your questions by asking things that are already at your fingertips. Word to the wise...
It shows as one drive.
All hard drives fail. No exception. If one of your RAID 0 drives fail, you lose everything. The same will happen with a single drive. The only real insurance is regular backup images of whatever drive setup you have.
In regards to your Vista problems, I would suggest reinstalling.

I can't reinstall, it's just too much really. I don't want to have to re-enter my settings for programs and what not, and I will have to do the same whenever attaching a new drive.
But the replacement I get will total my storage across two drives, enough for a RAID 0 setup. And if it works, and Vista sees it, then I will keep both drives, if not, they're both going back. |

Remember to back up your setup. I don't know how you're going to do that if Vista refuses to load new drives...
RAID drives should be identical drives. If not, the array may actually be slower than a single drive. This info is also available via Google - no offense. |

I don't know if Vista won't detect RAID. I set my new HD in RAID and it said it was installing software, but because there was only one and it wasn't setup properly in BIOS it didn't show it in my Computer.
I know information is available in Google, but it's bit's and pieces like I haven't been able to find in one place. If a question pops up sure I'll search it, but it's a good idea to speak to some who may have tried it so any problems along the way can become apparent. It's threads like this that make up the search results on Google remember... |
