| scsi advice needed, badly
hey guys,
I'm totally not familiar with scsi and it's variations, and I wanted to know something.
My DL360 G2 has broken down on me, but it has this scsi controller onboard: Smart Array 5i Controller
I had 2 18.2Gb 15k rpm discs on there, Ultra3?? U320??
Can i successfully hook those up to the scsi controller on the Asus TR-DLS,
which has the following: Onboard SCSI: Dual channel Ultra160/320 SCSI channels, LSI 53C1010R/1030 64-bit/66MHz SCSI controller
Are those compatible?? Can I use those on that??
Thanks for any info.
cheers

It's really not about the old controller. It's about the HDDs. Who makes them? What models are they?
Your new controller supports U160 and U320, so if they fit one of those bills, they will work fine - as long as you have the proper connectors/cable.

well, as those were the only drives I had, I checdked with a colleague of mine, he hooked me up with a scsi cable, 2 converters and a terminator, all in all 30 euros.
The scsi discs I have turn out to have DCA connectors for hot swappability, and they work great on this system, with the help of converters.
Just too bad that the scsi controller doesn't support raid. |

| Changing SCSI controllers.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but when you switch to a different make and/or model, you have to start over again building the array, which trashes anything on the hard drivers.
Apparently, different controllers put the data and array information in different places.
