DL DVD Drive wont read blank DL Discs

Title says it all i have an HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA-4083B that when im trying to burn an image. I put the blank and it says no medium present. On all programs (Clone CD, DVD Decryptor, ect ect) Anyone got any ideas?

Try this firmware update:

HLDS GWA-4083B 8X DVD(+/-)R/RW DL Drive Firmware Update*

If your computer is a HP go to their website, and enter the model number to get any updated drivers, firmware:

HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers & more

If the above doesn't work....try changing your media.

cant click the download link, the finger shows up to click but nothing happens, could u download and temporarily host it for me

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp26501-27000/sp26521.exe seems to work, when I extracted it from the page source. Button wouldn't work for me either, using Firefox or IE.

welp now i get the error message " your system is not configured with this device, it does not need to be updated" yet ... in device manager i have it... any other ideas?

Is Nero or Easy CD installed?

How many recorders do you have? If you have more than one, you have to select the proper recorder in each burning application. You may be defaulting to the wrong burner.

Other than that, I would suspect a defective drive.

yeah its jsut a defective drive =\ my friends drive worked without a problem
