On-line file backups

Since our organization accelerates business applications across the distributed enterprise, we require some D2D backup repository to accelerate file backup and recovery.
Please suggest some rock-solid platform for maintaining backups on-line that can self manage large files like Web 2.0 rich media, video surveillance data.

Online as in local network storage or Internet storage?

I wouldn't trust any Internet storage for critical backups. It's not that you can't trust Internet storage companies - the problem is unreliable connections.

For a high dollar solution, you can lease servers from here: Dedicated Servers | Managed Hosting & Managed Server Hosting prices start at about $250 USD per month.

My company leases five machines to host SQL databases and have never had a problem.

The company I work for uses Iron Mountain.

Iron Mountain Solutions

In the department I work in, Iron Mountain protects our information stored on tapes and cds, as well as providing secure FTP transmission for digital storage. They come by in a armored truck every morning to pickup a locked briefcase that contains the previous days backup tapes and CDs. I do not know where their storage facility is though here in San ANtonio.

The online FTP backup is easy to use. It can use any ftp program with secure encryption and works just like logging into a normal FTP. They also have live backups of our servers as well. (Somewhere around 5TB of stored data that is monitored live over a T3 connection)

Re:On-line file backups

Many organizations still need to perform tape-based backups while some take tapes off-site to satisfy disaster recovery requirements. Since, tape backup is incredibly slow, you can use backup software such as Net Backup from Veritas/Symantec. Using this, files could be recovered from disks instantly without IT intervention.
