Any Promise. HPT or CMD card will work fine as extra IDE ports, just get yourself one that supports ATAPI as well (the HPT's are a bit picky) and is cheap (no more than $20). I guess the CMD offers the best value for money here. Oh and make sure it has a BIOS otherwise it won't boot (unless you go cooking your mobo bios with added binaries etc etc). |

300 Min and 300 Max is what I run with 768MB's of RAM. I very rarely need more than that. The old 2 1/2 times rule was for 8/16/32MB's RAM. With the amount of RAM in machines today it isn't necessary to create such a large page file. I would have to set a 1920MB Min and Max static page file using the 2 1/2 times rule.
I toy around with graphics, do a little web page work, surf the net and I'm not a gamer. 300 will do me fine with lots left over before the Page File has to be used.
NDC does a lot of graphics work so he might need a slightly larger page file.
Using the ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1 , your RAM will be used to capasity before data is swapped out to the Page File. Accessing from your RAM is much faster than accessing from your HDD.
How's this for a card? http://www.promise.com/product/subsy...p?pid=87&fid=3
Cheers! |

robin801,
if ou put the cd or dvd on the same channel with the hard drives , then you will Definately be going slower then you could be ..
Ijust replaced my WD 40 gig with the WD 120 special Edition. If you would like to see the comparison using HD TAch 2.61 then go to this PAGE
Now don't laugh at the site.. it is My first try at it....

| No, not unless either your CD or DVD are PIO only. But I doubt they are.
As for your HDTach results, I would stick to the 40G with the lower access time, over the 120G with the higher sequential rates for my OS.
