The best one I have ever used is XP Pro - Automatic System Recovery.
Ghost never was there for me when I needed it.
Acronis - using the floppy - worked fine, also.
ASR is the best.

Also like XP Pro recovery, does the new target drive have to be always larger than the old drive? Ia m trying to go from a 250GB to a 150GB vraptor... if so, what would be the best way to do this?

I think Nova Back is now the best total protection package. It now has both a file-by-file backup, and an imaging module. I was using Acronis (available free for those who have Sygate or Maxtor drives as part of their downloadable drive management software) along with Nova's file-by-file before. Now I only need the one tool.
. F by F is much more secure as any corruption will affect only single files where corruption of an image file can cause the loss of the entire image file or at least the part after the corrupted spot. For real security, use the belt and suspenders approach...
. IOW, I don't consider disk imaging alone an adequate backup solution.

I used to use Nova . . . . until it failed me in a crisis . . .
We use Acronis at work and I use it at home for several of my systems. I have an Acronis Boot CD both places and it's never failed me.

| I would pull all of the crap out of your My Doc's file onto a Cd or Dvd to make sure it will fit, they try a clone with XP Pro asr, or Acronis. |
