| western digital, i give up.
i surrender. you win. you have killed me 2 times when i had alot of data on you. you suck. you should die. i used to praise you and support you in the forums. from now on i will be going with maxtor and possibly seagate which ive had no issues with.

I love my western digital. They are very reliable drives. I don't know what happened to your drives. Maybe your mobo killed them (I've had that happen before, believe it or not.) I've never had any problems with my WD. But yeah, if you hate WD that much, go ahead and get seagate or maxtor. |

I have one running in my sons machine. Its a 13 GB. I got it for free. The prior owner RMA'd it twice and then gave it to me because they were sick of it. It runs fine but I don't put important data on a WD. There 540 MB abd 850 MB drives are rock stable but who uses drives that tiny anymore?

it happens
only bad drives in the box i ever received were wd's
the 6.4 series were problematic i bought three and rma'd three
their rma process is relatively painless and i did get bigger drives back, so that was cool

Nothing wrong with Seagate, especially their SCSI drives. Sure you pay, but very solid.

I'm on my fourth 6.4, but heck, I only piad for it once and that was about 5 years ago. I've also had a 13.6 croak on me, so those two go on UD cows or on experimental machines with nothing critical on them. Besidews, they'd always bet a bit wierd, noisy or something before they gave up the ghost completely, so I never had a catastrophic loss.
I've had sudden death failures with Seagate, IBM and Maxtor, and just won't fool with them anymore. the only particular advantage that Maxtor has is the easy RMA policy.
But the current crop of WD stuff with sizes that are all multiples of 20 have been good solid performers for me.
Strangely, the one brand that has been solid, fast, quiet and dead solid reliable has been Samsung. Pretty inexpensive, too.

LOL, FreakyOCR!!
I did buy IBM, and had to RMA.... Now it's in a RAID1 with a Maxtor for a mirror and 2 80mm fans drawing air over it...
Been fine since (knock on wood)!
