| Only see ghost image files when trying to back up HDD
I bought a Toshiba Satellite M45 laptop about 3 years ago. Last week, I closed the laptop but didn't shut it down. When I came home from work and opened it back up, I got a blue screen with some error message about hive/registry error stuff. So my plan was to take out the hard drive, put it in a USB enclosure, back it up onto an external hard drive, then put it back into the laptop and reformat. I bought a USB enclosure and plugged in the hard drive, but when I connected it to my work computer, I don't see my laptop files. Instead, I just see a Ghost Image File (GHS) and Ghost Spanned Image File (GHO). Now I'm stuck and don't know what to do. How can I access the files in my hard drive so I can back it up? Thanks |

You need administrative privileges on the work PC.
You need to look in Disk Management (DISKMGMT.MSC). Disk Management is well hidden. The easiest way to get to it and other consoles is to right-click My Computer and select "Manage".
You probably just need to import the system partition here. Disk Management

Nevertheless, it looks like your laptop was already imaged using Norton Ghost.
Why don't you restore that Ghost image?
If you want to back up your laptop hard drive, you will do better cloning it with Norton Ghost or True Image than trying to copy the individual files. |

Many OEMs used Ghost to create restore images. The images are usually stored on a second partition. If you see no other partitions, you have serious problems.
You will need professional help. Here's something that may work: TestDisk - CGSecurity |
