Have you considered Amazon S3 data storage via an intermediate service like Jungle Disk? You pay per GB of storage and transfers, but S3 costs are quite affordable.
Another service using S3 is Dropbox, but it bills a flat monthly fee depending upon the desired service tier. Note, I have not used either service, so YMMV. Read some reviews if interested.

I was using DropBox for a while (albeit on someone else's account) and it works/worked well. Initial link wasn't immediate, but certainly faster than FTP or any other method I've used before.
Never looked into how it works, but it seems/seemed to populate the other machines at something like one-and-a-half times the 'normal' web download speed - although this is user "feel" rather than any timed test.

I've use Streamload before. Online backup and storage for Windows and Mac
You get 2gb for free. And their pay plans start out at 150gb for $4.95 a month.
It comes with a program where you can setup automatic syncing of your files between multiple computers or devices. You don't pay per transfer, only $4.95 a month.
On their website, they don't mention anything about how much monthly bandwidth you are allowed to use or how many files you are allowed to transfer. But in their Terms of Service they do say Quote: |
IDrive may use automated procedures to detect unacceptable level of usage and may immediately disable offending accounts, and the process of detection may vary from time to time, based on misuse detected.
| I never had my account disabled and I was using around 15GB a month of bandwidth, but that was also 2 years ago. I have not use Streamload since they became IDrive.

My mother has been using Mozy for a year now, we really haven't had a chance to test it out fully because nothing has crashed/died. However with any service such as this, your upload speeds will determine how fast your backups are and if you have a lot of stuff, the initial backup will take a while. After that, with incremental or differentials shouldn't take that long at all.
How much do you need to backup?
Apparently google is coming out with something called Gdrive TG Daily (c) - Throw your hard drive away, Google's Gdrive arriving in 2009 |
