Partition Problem

I have a problem in my Partition F; when I view it from the My Computer Window it says it has 12.6 GB free out of 18.7 GB. The problem is that I'm not even using 6.1 GB - I hardly use less than 4 GB of it (Flatout 2 and Counter-Strike). So what happened to the remaining 2 GB? Is this a software error or a hardware error?

There could be some hidden system files on it. Your system's page-file could also be stored on that partition as well. In both cases, you wouldn't see it through normal computer browsing.

Also, it could be set up as a recovery partition (if it's like a HP, Dell, etc.) - so when you put in the CD for a restore, it grabs it from that hidden partition and makes restores reletively painless for end users.

There are a million and a half possible reasons your hard drive isn't reporting the full amount...

I couldn't even see those hidden files taking the extra space with the 'view hidden files' option on :\
