Internal HDD, large(er) flash drive?

I've had a burning question in the back of my mind for some time now, and I would like to get it cleared up. Instad of buying an external HDD and taking uo space on my desk, is it possible to use an internal SATA 3.0gbs just like an external HDD/ USB flash drive?

What I'm trying to get to is; is it possible to buy an internal HDD, and simply just drag and drop files onto the drive(like a GIANT flash drive)? Or would the drive have to be formated with an OS?

That.

It will transfer data much faster internal than external also.

My Gigabyte motherboard came with an eSata bracket that features a power connector. Most do *not* include power. They are mostly like this one:

Newegg.com - SYBA SD-ESATA-EP2 2-Ports e-SATA Extension Bracket for External Connection - Adapters & Gender Changers

This is your dilemma - you need both power and data cables for bare drives. Also. eSATA connector are different from internal SATA connectors. You would have to get another reverse adapter to go from the eSATA port to your drive.

You're better off with one of these:

Amazon.com: Thermaltake BlacX eSATA USB Docking Station: Electronics

It simplifies everything.

I wont be needing an eSATA dock. I was just looking to buy an extra internal drive and stick it in my pc. Hooking up the sata cord to my motherboard and adding power to it. Much like any other normal internal HDD.

That may work like a USB drive, but it won't transport like one. You weren't clear on that part.

Now, I know what you meant....
