| Motherboard / RAID controller compatability
I am trying to set up a mini storage server for my home that will double as a HTPC. I have the need for a multiple terabyte raid array. The motherboard I want to get is a gigabyte micro-atx with built in Radeon HD4200. It does however, still have a 16x pci-e slot, and then a single 1x slot. I need a raid controller with 8 sata ports, because I will be installing two 4-drive 2.5" backplanes, as well as using the onboard raid for an additional 4 drives, making a total of twelve. Needless to say, there arent any 8-port raid controllers for 1x pci-e. The particular controller I am looking at is 8x, compatible with 16x. So, to get to the point....
I honestly am not very well informed pci-e. What I do not know is if the 16x slot on the mobo is dedicated for video, (like AGP) or if I can install any pci-e card in that slot.
I dont know if it matters but this is the card Newegg.com - Suggested Products
please enlighten me! Thanks! |
