WD MyBook Essential 1TB USB issue

Hello,

I have recently purchased a new Western Digital MyBook Essential 1TB external HDD and noticed it had real low transfer speed (somewhere between 900 KB/s - 1.2 MB/s). Also, every time I connect it to one of my USB ports I get the message "This device can perform faster if you connect it to an usb 2.0 port". It shows that on 3 different laptops and 2 desktops (they have Win XP SP3 and one has Win 7 all with the latest drivers).

If anyone has any ideas as to what is causing this i would be grateful. Thank u in advance.

Most likely, the USB cable you're using is a cheap one. Try a new (or at least different) USB cable.
