Right..So here's the case.
Right now I'm stuck with 3 partitions on a WD 640GB HDD, The E: partition has my OS (Windows XP professional x64) installed on it, the F: drive is where I keep my downloads and both the drives have something installed on them.
Now there's the 3rd C: partition, which doesn't really have anything on it, I've pretty much forgotten what I wanted to do with it, I think I was going for a W7 dual-boot.
Anyway, this is no longer the case, I'm considering to simply go for W7 x64 soon and getting rid of my old OS altogether, frankly it gives me too many problems.
What I hope to achieve is:
Save all the stuff that I want to save, mainly all my downloaded stuff.
Get 2 partitions going, so that means getting rid of one of them.
Get rid of my old OS and be able to start freshly anew with W7.
Any reccomendations on how to do this?

Just back up your stuff and delete all partitions when you install 7. During the installation, allow 7 to create an appropriately sized system partition, then partition the rest in disk management. |

Ah, that's good to know.
As for the backups, how do you propose I do that? |

External hard drive, burn a CD/DVD, flash drive, network drive, etc.
Do you not know how to back up your data? |

Here's an idea. Go buy something! I mean seriously, what can I suggest if you don't have any backup solution? |

Back to serious mode again...
If you have data that isn't backed up, then you can't really call it important data.......
You need to have any important data backed up (by whatever means - even an XCOPY would do!) to another physical disk... I've helped people who had their backups on another partition of the same disk and they thought they had it sussed - until I pointed out that if the disk "died" then they've lost any partitions that were there, and therefore also anything that was on it at all.....

I can't count how many times a backup saved my butt. There is nothing like getting that sick feeling in your stomach after seeing the "PLEASE INSERT A BOOT DISK AND PRESS ENTER," message.
Especially with all the digital photos people take. A hard drive is a mechanical device that has a limited lifespan.
