I will only buy HDD's from those two brands with WD taking priority.

I just bought a Hitachi 7k1000 250GB unit from ZZF mainly because the three Hitachi drives I currently use have done so well by me.

I have some old Maxtor drives that are a decade old and still run... but my newest drives are Western Digital (WD) and those are the ones I'd recommend.
1-terabyte drives are inexpensive these days... why go with less?

- unless you are a pr0n or pirated media/software collector, no one really needs that much space. Very hard to manage the larger drives. Take forever to defrag. At least as long to clean house. Everything goes in, but nothing ever comes out. My first hard drive was in the 20 MegaByte range (that's right MB not GB) - and that was huge in the day! Now you can go on vacation and SpinRite won't be done when you get back... (just a bit of exaggeration). There's a lot of stuff kicked behind the fridge on my 160GB drive that I can't remember what it is, but there it sits...
