| sata drives arent detected
I have two satas that have info on them and have been working until yesterday... I turned on the copmuter it was booting up really slow and when i finally made it to the desktop i looked in my computer to find my drives missing.... I looked in disk management and they didnt show .. i checked hte bios and it says not detected... i did notice the day before while watching heroes that i got like 10 popups... which i closed and did a scan.. i turned off the computer and it took a long time too turn off.. |

So because no-one could help you, you decided to not post the solution so that others can't find it.....
Not everyone will see your post, if no answer after a day try bumping it up so that others may see it and help.....

You may as well post your system specs, etc information.... so that if this happens to someone else... it may help them.

So i went back to basics guys... havent been able to respond because shortly after i ran into a different issue.... but to respond about what happend... I unplugged all the cables... and plugged them back in... dont know why it worked but it did... as a result i did get some chkdsk runs before the login screen... now 2 days after which i could see the drives i downloaded an episode of House MD.... and after watching it... i turned off the computer ... next day i turned on the computer and it began looping as soon as it would get to the windows xp logo it would reboot... i plugged my hardrive into another computer and copied all the essentials and formated the drive.... i think it was a virus.. but quite frankly i didnt have the time so today i will begin the laborious task of installing all my programs... any one know as to what i could have done as an alternative??? and i want to create a "master boot cd" one where i can install all my programs instead of going cd by cd... |

Well I have had that problem occasionally with both PATA and SATA drives. I also find that it's due to loose connectors - cheap Chinese cables/connectors have little thermal stability and the metal is thinner than the AMP or Molex originals. I've often thought of redoing the connectors with the original design standards, but then I never actually do it... <sigh>

"any one know as to what i could have done as an alternative???"
This won't help you now but in the future You could do what I do, setup an extra hard drive in a mobile rack and clone the drive when you get your system running the way you want and at least once a week as long as you are not having any problems, and when you do use the clone to overwrite the system drive. I use Acronis.
