Cloning a Hard Drive - Question/Advice

Long time since I've posted on here.. had a quick question for anyone that might know a bit about hard drives. Recently purchased a bigger and faster hard drive and will replace my old one with that. Don't want to bother with re-installing OS, apps, etc.. and so I plan on cloning the old drive. Are there any disadvantages to do doing this? My main question is that will the performance benefits of the new drive be removed/reduced by simply dumping a cloned image onto it?

Thanks in advance!

No, if the drive is faster you will see the benifits.... Cloning the drive is quite easy and straight forward....

Yeah the software that WD provides through their website seems easy and user-friendly so I'm just gonna go ahead and do the clone. My worry was just that if an older drive used inefficient method to write data to the drive (i really have no clue about the way data is written to HDs) if those same inefficiencies would carry over and affect performance in my new drive. Thanks for your response!

Go to this link and download the software and manual, it's pretty straight forward. Glance over the manual before you start so you know what the settings mean and do.

Good luck!

Don't worry, the clone won't have anything to do with hardware deficiencies.
that's a physical aspect of the drive itself.

any software issues, etc would of course carry over.

all you're doing is copying data, and the file structure.

if anything, once it's done and you're up and running, do a quick disk check and defrag, even if it doesn't need it to be sure it will have everything in place.
