    Smile Strange flash drive

my os: win xp home sp3 flash drive: 16 GB SanDisk Cruzer Micro
At first the Cruzer was so weird it's difficult to describe but finally after many formats, it started working ALMOST good. The thing it does that I need to understand is that when I copy JPEG photo images to the Cruzer, they show up as both good thumbnail images and also JPEG icons without an image. These imageless icons will not open in any app.! I have seen this before with other drives but have no idea why the normally OK photo images fail to arrive at a new destination intact. I can make the imageless JPEG icon turn out OK by re copying from the original (which is NOT corrupted) but this is way more bother than to have the drive get it right the first time. By the way, I have several other flash drives that perform correctly so I believe this is not an O.S. problem. Can anyone explain to me why some of the images I copy to the flash drive show up as just JPEG icons without an image and are unreadable by other apps like Photoshop, windows viewer, etc.?
    Thanks
    Jim

it's either the drive is bad, or it has a write issue on that computer. if for some reason the write caching is acting up, that could possibly explain things.

is it only jpeg's, or do other types of file images do that as well?

have you tried it on a different computer, preferably one it has never been plugged into?
this would rule out any write caching issues going on.

have you tried removing it using that "safely remove devices" option in the system tray to see if it wrote correctly upon re-insertion?

next, i'd get one of the freebie flash drive utility's and scan it for errors.

Apacer makes a format utility, not sure if it's specific to their drives or not, but i'd look into a scan/repair utility, or one of each so if the scans come up good, you can have a utility format it specifically instead of a generic windows format.
