    Which should me the "Master"?

I am currently waiting for Fed-Ex to drop off my new 36x24x48x cdrw drive and I have a question...

Should I make my new cdrw drive the master and my older cd-rom the slave?

Also, I have an ata66 10.2 gig hd sitting in my spare parts box that I was thinking of popping it in and using just for mp3 storage. It currently has windows98se on it too. Can I wipe it clean with fdisk and format or do I need some software to do it for me? Thanx!!

Greetings... setup the extra harddrive as a slave and just format it from within windows... Right click- format. It is that easy . As for your cdrw- that is really up to you whether you set it as slave or master. I have never experienced any detrimental effects from either. The only thing that may matter (it does to me ) is the automatic drive assignment- depending on the order you set it up on the Ribbon will determine the auto assign of whether it is D:, E:... same with harddrive.

Goodluck andhave fun with your new toys.

don't you just love the site of the fed-ex truck? lol

    i just ordered a new hdd(came yesterday).

i am doing something like you but i bought a controller card to add to my system so that i can put all my drives on a separate cable and they all will be master.

i have a post over in the hdd storage forum(robin801) about my setup.

Well, everything went ok! The only problem I have is I cant use my old cd-rom drive for two reasons; one, my cable was too short, and two, I couldn't move my drive down to access the cable because my mobo was in the way . Oh well.

P.S. Robin, Fed-Ex is excellent. I get my parts from newegg.com, and the shipping is cheap; also I get my stuff in about 3 days!!
