| To autoplay or not to autoplay...
I have a computer that has a HD, Zip, CDRW, and DVD. The HD light blinks like crazy. If I unhook the CDRW and DVD, the computer works fine. If either one is hooked up, the light blinks every second.
Now, if I hook up these 'CDROMS' and disable autoplay in regedit, the blinking stops.
I just can't use autoplay, now.
How would I be able to use both of my 'CDROMS' and use autoplay?
Or am I just cursed?
My OS is XP Pro, by the way, but this curse will happen on any version of Windows! 98, 98SE, 2000, it doesn't matter.
Thanks in advance! |

Why do you want to use autoplay? IMO it's a horrible feature that does nothing but cause trouble, especially with CD burners. Do the smart thing and keep it disabled. |

define "normal". hmm have you checked the jumper settings to make sure they are properly set? if they ar on cable select you might try manually configuring them.not really sure if this will help, i've just never heard of anything like this before. also what chipset does your mobo use? sometimes via makes two versions of a chipset, like the kt266 and kt266a and usually the first chipset is buggy. you might try flashing your bios cuase it doesn't sound like a software prob if it does this in 9x and NT. |

If you want your computer to be normal, then leave autoplay disabled. Everyone I know has it disabled.
However if you want your computer to be like the computer owned by the average Joe, then go buy yourself a piece of crap Compaq or Emachine or some other pos. |

Well...on the flip side, I have had to keep autoplay enabled. If I don't, when I put in a different CD, It won't the new CD. Refresh doesn't do it...nothing but a reboot. Drove me crazy until I re-enabled it. If that doesn't happen, definately leave it disabled. It's a pain in the a$$.
Hey, can someone remind me what the key is when I insert a CD to stop auto-play in XP? |
