it can be nice at times. i did that for a while. i had my system on c: my program files on d: and my other files on e: and it worked very well. then i switched to Linux so i don't do this anymore. i didn't originally set it up for this purpose, i was going through partitioning hell and ended up with the partitions and decided to just use them, but things did run a bit faster i'd say cause the hd wouldn't have to scan near as much for stuff. i don't really know if it's worth the trouble though to set it up initially like this. also if you do this, you'll need to be familiar with partitioning and stuff. (sorry if this answer seems kinda vague, there isn't a yes or no answer, it all depends). |

I'ts nice too if you ever need to do a clean reinstall of your OS. At least put a small partition on your drive for your saved files. Then you can refomat your C drive without wiping out all your data.
I have a C drive with Win98, a D drive with WinXP, and an E Data drive. I also have a second hard drive with Mandrake 8.2 installed.

Yes, and if not on a separate drive, a separate partition. Makes it easier to back things up, and keep the clutter down on the system partition. If you computer boots off of c:, and somehow d: gets hosed, you have no problem. But if it's all one partition....everything goes.
It's also very nice if you have multiple OSes.
I personally don't have the money to have lots of extra drives, but I do use multiple partitions to keep things organized. |

I just use two small drives. Mostly all I do is music anyways. SO I install all the OS a few games, and so on on one drive, and all the music,d/l and what-not one the other.I have lost a lot of MP3's due to viruses, crashes, and such. This way it's always safe, plus I back it up with a CD-RW.
