Exclamation SanDisk 2.0GB memory suddenly "unreadable" HELP!

I have a 2.0 GB SanDisk memory card containing a lot of important college work etc. It was working fine about 10 minutes ago when I was uploading some files from my Windows computer, but when I removed the card reader and put it into my MacBook it said 'This disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.' and I couldn't view any of my files that I'd seen just a few minutes earlier! Then, I tried inserting it back into the Windows computer and had the same problem - it asked me if I wanted to format the card but this would mean losing everything on there and it's really important that that doesn't happen. I'm sure this happened once before and I just restarted the computer and left it a while and it sorted itself out... but now I don't know what to do. Please help, I'm really worried that all my work is lost.

Didnt you leave the copies on the computer you transfered them from...? As you are copying to a different device it would leave a copy on the machine...

its possible the card went bad, its possible you pulled it out while it was still writing data, corrupting the card.

see if anyone else has a card reader on their laptop or PC, and try the card out there, if it reads fine, then back up the data some how (burn to disc comes to mind), and its probably a bad card reader, if its still unreadable on a known working card reader, then your card is pretty much FUBAR, with out going to a Data Recovery Service, which can be insanely expensive, your pretty much S.O.L..
