Question Viao PCG-751N Looking for new hard drive

    Hello,

I have an old computer that I have been using for Internet until now. It is a Viao PCG-751N.
The hard drive of the machine just died . It does not let me even enter to the BIOS. It starts for one or two min. and after that it just reboots.

Somebody knows where can I buy a new hard drive.

    Thanks.

First off let me welcome you to TIMO.

Now for starters are you certain its a dead hard drive? The bios has nothing to do with the HDD, its information that is stored on the motherboard itself and runs independent of the drives, OS ect. You can completely remove the HDD and it should still boot to the bios just fine.

When you say it doesn't let you enter the bios does the bios show on the screen at all? I mean do you get any signs of it booting at all?

    Thank you for the replays,

Steve is right, I'm far away. I'm in Japan and may be this model of Viao was not supplied in the US, I was hopping for a compatible HDD.

I'm thinking that is the HDD because when the machine reboots the disks makes a lot of noise.
Yes, the machine let me enter to the BIOS for few minutes, sometimes. But after a while the machine reboots itself.

Also, sometimes I can enter to the OS, in this case Windows XP, but again after few minutes the machine reboots and I get the SONY logo that is displayed when the machine is starting.

I'm going to try removing the HDD and see if I can get into the BIOS with no problem.

    Thank you.
