    Is it ok to keep this near external hd?

     
    this is xbox 360 wireless controller's usb connector.its very near to my 1TB external HD.

    i have already got 2 msgs hd drive not recognized win7 i am feared as its 1TB and all important data is int.

    should i make backup before its too late.
