grinding hard drive
Hi guys, the other week I just replaced my hard drive with a new one. The first few days I'm using it, you won't hear the slightest thing. But then, after some time I noticed it's starting to produce a low grinding noise which became more frequent and regular. Isn't grinding hard drive sound a sign of a failing drive? I don't know if I'm just a little paranoid or something cause my friend says it's pretty normal for her Seagate HDD to make such noise. Though I'm sure I've read articles in the past that healthy hard drives shouldn't be audible, that makes me a bit bothered. Even my previous one doesn't make any sound at all.

Usually hard drives dont, I would make sure you are backing up your drive. Go to the manufactures website and get the hard drive tester tool and run it on your hard drive. See if anything pops up.

If I was you, just to be on the safe side, I'd go ahead and return it and go for another one. I've had too many bad experiences with hard drives to risk it. You're lucky that its happening now with the chance of it under warranty and opportunity to backup you data.
